My Sentiments on the Smart Exactly

I saw a great article on the smart fortwo today in Winding Road Magazine. It compares it with the Honda Fit, which most automotive journalists will favor in two seconds flat. After all, the fit can seat more people, has a more powerful engine, has more cargo capacity, and apparently has a higher quality interior. When comparing the car to a smart in practical terms, the Fit is an obvious winner.  However, in this article, the Smart wins.  Why? They look at the smart for what it is--not a practical, 4 seater car, but as a low-cost urban sports car.

To best sum it up, they make an analogy of comparing a Ford Flex to a Nissan 370Z. By all accounts the Flex is technically a better car--it has more HP, seats more, stores more, etc. However, since the 370Z is allegedly so fun to drive, all those "deficiencies" are forgiven.  That's just it with the Smart--it is fun to drive. Sure, it doesn't go that fast, but when you are driving you feel involved.  That's why I like driving mine. To me it is the funnest, new car you can get for this price range. Oh yea, and it fits perfectly into our single carport alongside my wife's smart fortwo
